The Bible tells us, and the motto of Fit Pastor is: "train yourself to be Godly". But does that mean I should lift weights if I'm over 30? Doing cardio is great for your heart and keeps you healthy however, weight lifting is now more important than ever as you move past the age of 30. In my opinion, in many ways its more important than just doing cardio.

Let me share with you a few thoughts on why you should be lifting weights if you're north of 30.

It improves the ability to perform activities of daily living - This can be to improve your performance at work, or even with your kids. Your energy levels will skyrocket and you'll be able to do more for a longer period of time.

It promotes muscle building - Our lean body mass decreases with age. Many problems can arise because of this. Weight lifting will turn this around for you, especially as you age.

It improves Bone Density - Stronger bones are crucial as we get older. Don't want to fall and break a hip!

It improves strength of connective tissue and tendons - This leads to less injuries as we age and helps with things like balance and posture, all needed to be healthy.

The real question many ask is this: is it harder to build muscle as we age? In reality, no, it isn't! I changed from being a runner to bodybuilder when I was 50. Was it a challenge? Yes, but I like the results.

The reason why people think it's harder is because they have more distractions in their lives. There are kids, careers and family issues. Life just gets in the way.

Don't let this be your excuse! With the right approach and plan you can build muscle. It's actually not as hard as you may think, it just takes time. You have to purpose to do it and then stay with it.

Are you interested in this but finding it hard to know how or to get started? Get in touch with me and I can help you find the way. Then you too can use weights to train yourself to be Godly in the physical sense.
